Decrease Of the Fuel Consumption
Today, when the prices of oil are constantly growing the majority of people are concerned about the affordability of driving a vehicle. Not only the car owners are concerned; environmentalists also always warn that fossil fuels are running out and some other solution should be found.
One of the solutions would be to decrease the fuel consumption. For example, one can drive slower and maintain the same speed all time, or use air conditioning to the minimum as well as change the oil and the air filters in the car on a regular basis. However, the fuel saving would not be impressive and these procedures are not cost-free. Some people also decide to buy a car that saves fuel, but a statistic shows that as many as fifteen per cent of car buyers are not satisfied with its fuel saving features.
There is also the possibility to use products which saves fuel. Several categories are available on the market and one of them are gas additives. They are really effective as far as costs are affected and a driver do not need to worry about possible low performance of the engine, high exhaust emissions or short engine life. These products are proven environmentally-friendly. The process of achieving these excellent properties is indeed
How Air is Polluted?
As we just breafly explained in the previous article Pure Air, air is the most important for our survival. However, air can be easily polluted by the changes in atmosphere due to human occupation. For example, 1. changes due to respiration op people and animals – these are chiefly carbon dioxide, water vapors and organic matter and oxygen diminishes. It also raises the temperature; 2. changes due to combustion (of coal gas, oil, etc.) – mainly air pollution derived from coal in the process of combustion by the oxidation of carbon of the air is carbon dioxide. Carbon monoxide may also be formed by combustion; 3. decomposition (of organic – animal and vegetable matter) there are released poisonous gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, carbon disulphide etc. Bacteria and fungi also grow rapidly in such air; 4. trade, traffic and manufacturing
processes which give off dust, fumes, vapors, gases (due to dust etc.) – the inorganic particles of dust are chiefly composed of silica, aluminium silicate, carbonate, carbon magnesium and sodium
Pure Air
Life cannot exist without air. Pure air is essential for healthy life and the purity of the atmosphere has direct impact on the relation between health and diseases. The uncomfortable feeling in a place is mainly due to the high temperature, excess of water-vapor and lack of air, movement which cause beat stagnation.
Of the two most essential elements that sustain life, air is of greater importance than water, as life cannot be sustain without air (oxygen) for more than 3 minutes, but one can survive for a few days without water. For maintenance of healthy life pure air is necessary, because it purifies the blood by interchange of O2 with CO2 in the lungs. It also regulates the body temperature and promotes digestion and assimilation. Air strengthens the body and nerves, improves metabolism, increases resistance against
disease, etc.
Composition
Air is a mechanical mixture and not a chemical compound and the composition of air is more or less constant. Water vapor varies with temperature. Traces of ammonia, organic matter, salts of sodium, ozone, dust and other mineral substances are also present in a variable quantity.
How to Reduce Air and Noise Pollution
In cities, the most complex anthropogenic formations, a specific and often unfavourable ecological environment for man’s life has been created. All around we can find only concrete buildings, pavements, cars, crowded streets, therefore air pollution can not be avoided. If we compare the quality of air in cities with those in rural areas, it can be concluded that it has much less oxygen and more bacteria and germs. One of the best assistants in the fight against harmful gases, dust and soot, and a good regulators of gas exchange are green areas, and their most important element – vegetation.
How to save water at home
Water is a renewable resource, unlike fossil fuels. Unfortunately, clean water is not and its sources are being exhausted everyday by our excess consumption and pollution. Thus, it is very important to think about how can we reduce its over-consumption at home.
1.Regular checking of plumbing. Check if there is any leak and fix it. You can save about 20 gallons per day for every leak you stop. Of course, it depends on how intense the leak was. Leaks of only one drip every 3 seconds wastes 30 gallons per month. Do not forget to check your swimming-pool for leaks as well. You can check this by using a pencil to mark the level of water. Control the mark one day later. Your pool should lose no more than a quarter of inch each day. Also, you should check for leaks the toilet by putting food coloring in water tank. If the color seeps into the toilet bowl, you have a leak but it is easy to fix. By fixing it you can save more than 600 gallons a month.
You can
Why Recycle?
What can be recycled? Many of items that we use daily: plastics, glass, ceramics, paper, cardboard, aluminum, iron, electronic and electrical waste, and so on.
Paper
Paper is obtained from wood processing in factories with the help of numerous chemical agents. At the same time, old and large forests disappear and there is a great risk of river pollution.
In order to avoid damaging of the environment, it is possible to re-collect the paper that we no longer need and give it to recycling. Moreover, processing of waste paper uses up to 60% less energy than if the product is received from natural materials (wood). Also, the processing of already used paper utilizes 15% less
Importance of Good Ventilation
Ventilation: The modern concept of ventilation implies not only the replacement of vitiated air by a supply of fresh outdoor air, but also control of the quality of incoming air with regard to its temperature, humidity and purity with a view to provide a thermal environment that is comfortable and free from risk of infection.
Requirement of air: Usually, the standards of ventilation have been based on the efficiency of ventilation in removing body odor.
1. Cubic space – Standards for the minimal fresh air that is advocated by different workers range from 300 to 3,000 cubic ft. per hour per person.
Green Revolution
Green Revolution
At the end of the last century, the world intensively started to pay attention to the environment, and at the same time the need for a healthier diet developed. There was a fundamental change in public consciousness that nature is not something that is God-given, but the only home that must be fostered and preserved. World governments reacted by introducing legal regulations which in turn stimulated the development of businesses related to this industry. “Environmental marketing”, “Organic marketing” or “Green marketing” are some of the terms used in marketing of products that are beneficial to the environment.
The difficulties about definition
Nineties of the last century were called “environmental decade” because the environmental and social care significantly affected the purchasing decisions of consumers. The concern for the environment in which we live and the needs of customers for green products have led to the development of green marketing. Definition of this type of marketing creates a challenge in itself, because its definition in commercial, social and environmental terms have somewhat contradictory meanings. Marketing of products that are presumed to be safe for man’s environment is a commercial definition, developing and marketing of products that have minimal negative impacts to the environment or to improving of its quality is a sociological definition, and ecological definition applies to organizations that promote, produce and pack products that are appropriate and acceptable for the environment.
Identification of consumer
Green marketing covers a wide range of activities that includes the modification of products, processes, packaging and advertising. First, it is important to locate and identify the consumer, then assess how this group of consumers is informed, and what additional training is needed to expand and strengthen it. If we observe the demographics of buyers of environmentally friendly products, women are more interested in the environment than men, often buy organic products and women are more engaged in sorting waste for recycling.
However, both sexes are equally represented in the activities of preserving the environment in which we live. Also, people with higher incomes and higher levels of education, and therefore greater access to information, often pay more attention to organic products and the environment. Psychological indicators of consumers tell us that people with conservative values do not want to complicate their life with the changes or do not want to be part of something that does not comply with basic standards. Therefore, they are not open to changes in standards and purchase green products. On the other hand, people who buy organic products attach more importance to internal values such as happiness and personal fulfillment, while people who are not fond of buying such products respect more external values such as sense of belonging, security and respect. Observing the behavior of customers who use green products to a large extent has shown that the opinion of other people, states and environmental groups have huge impact of them. They also have a strong identity and high degree of concern for the environment.
Soil Pollution and Erosion
The soil is the brown layer that wraps our planet. This is the more or less crumbly mass which manages the plant roots. Formed soil can be several feet thick or thin just a few inches. However, only the top layer of 10-30 cm is made ??up of fertile topsoil. If our Earth would one day run out of the topsoil, then our little world would again become a dead star.
Our planet has a diameter of about 12,600 km, however, just about 3.2 billion hectares would be theoretically usable for agricultural purposes. Currently, half of that feeds the whole mankind, but the second half could be cultivated only with extremely high costs. Theoretically, several decades ago, every inhabitant of the earth could use about 1 hectare of land. In 2000. it was only half a hectare.
Dumping & Composting
It is a well known true that each action has its reaction. If we think about people and their impact on the environment, we can be at the same time amazed and horrified. Littering can be seen in every corner of the world. There are everywhere illegal dumping grounds… What can we do and how can the spreading of waste be slowed down? What are some methods of dumping?
The word refuse means waste matter. It may be dry refuse or liquid waste (water unmixed with human excreta). Sewage is a combination of liquid waste water and the human excreta in the sewer.
Sanitation: The word Sanitation comes from a French word “Sanita” which means cleanliness. It may be personal which is called- personal hygiene; cleanliness of the surrounding is called environmental sanitation.
The essentials of sanitation are the following:
(I) Safe water supply.
(2) Sanitary disposal of all types of refuse.
(3) Food and milk sanitation, including kitchen sanitation.
(4) Healthful housing principles.
(5) School Sanitation.
(6) Factory sanitation.
(7) Sanitation of fairs, camps and public transport.
(8) Sanitation of hostels and restaurants.
